Catalanesca Del Monte Somma “Katà” – Cantine Olivella

Catalanesca is a native variety of the Vesuvius area and, according to the myth, it was planted right there by Alfonso V of Aragon, who had already glimpsed its potential. Cantine Olivella has created its symbolic wine, cultivating it on the ancient ungrafted vineyards on the slopes of Monte Somma, in the oldest wine-growing area of the area; after a manual harvest, the grapes are immediately subjected to vinification and only the free-run must (the first pressing) is used, which is cleaned with the aid of the cold, so as not to disperse the typical aromas. After a long refinement on the noble lees and a few months of rest in the bottle, Katà sees the light, but it is only after a few years that it manages to fully express its volcanic strength.
